Painting the town red
You may have seen these red boards on construction sites and maybe you've wondered what they are. In the simplest terms, they indicate that an RIBA Chartered Architect or a Chartered Practice is involved in the project.
So what is an RIBA Chartered Architect and why hire one?
An RIBA Chartered Architect is someone who has undertaken seven years of professional training and is on the Architects Registration Board's register of architects. By hiring one, you are assured that they are a member of one of the most prestigious architectural associations in the world - the Royal Institute of British Architects.
You may be interested to know that under the Architects Act 1997, it is a criminal offence to advertise oneself as an 'architect' without being on the register and the ARB regularly prosecute those misusing the name.
